Starting® Up® Your® Account®
You’re taking your first step toward protecting your digital wealth. This guide will walk you through how to start up your account via Trezor.io/Start, configure your device, and get ready to manage your crypto assets securely.
Throughout this process, you’ll be asked to confirm actions physically on your Trezor device. That’s by design — it ensures your private keys never leave the device. Let’s begin. 🚀
Before you start, make sure you have:
⚠️ Important: Never type or upload your recovery seed to any website or digital file. Keep it offline and secure.
Open your browser and type in https://trezor.io/start. Confirm that the SSL padlock is present and that you're on the official domain. This is the only safe portal to initialize your Trezor device.
The page will detect your hardware model and guide you to either download the Trezor Suite or continue setup via Web if supported. Always follow on‑screen prompts.
On the Trezor.io/Start page, select the version of **Trezor Suite** compatible with your operating system. Download and install it. Trezor Suite is the desktop (or web) application that connects to and manages your hardware wallet.
Once installed, launch the application. It will detect your Trezor device once connected. If prompted, grant permissions or allow the software to access your hardware device.
Use the USB cable to plug your Trezor into your computer. The device will power on, and you should see a welcome or logo screen. In Trezor Suite, it should appear as a connected device.
If for any reason it doesn’t show, try a different USB cable, alternate port, or ensure that no USB hubs are interfering.
Many Trezor units arrive without firmware. When connecting, Trezor Suite will prompt you to install the latest firmware version. If your device already has firmware but requires an update, the same prompt will appear.
Confirm the installation on both the software and the device screen when asked. Wait patiently — do not disconnect while firmware is updating.
At this stage, you have two choices:
If creating fresh, your device will show a sequence of words — write them down in order on your recovery card. Afterward, Trezor will ask you to confirm certain words to verify correctness.
Set a numeric PIN for your Trezor. This PIN is used each time you connect your device to authorize access. It’s entered **on the device**, not your computer, to prevent malware interception.
Choose a PIN that’s not trivial but that you can remember. Never share it, and avoid writing it near your recovery seed.
Once your wallet is active, you can choose which cryptocurrencies (“coins”) you want visible in your interface. Enable only those you use to streamline your dashboard.
Optionally, enable advanced features like:
Confirm every change on your physical device whenever prompted.
With your account set up, here’s how to do everyday tasks:
The security you enjoy with Trezor is strong — but it depends on your behavior:
If your Trezor device is lost, broken, or stolen, don’t panic. You can fully restore your account using your recovery seed:
Provided your seed is intact and correct, you regain access to all your funds—no data is lost.
You might encounter minor hiccups during setup or use. Here are some helpful fixes:
